INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS
UWP Consulting has a policy of diversification and expansion and as a result of this has worked on projects in a number of countries in Africa. These include Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Madagascar, Burkina Faso and Namibia. Income from these cross border operations now accounts for 25% of the firms turnover.
As part of this policy of diversification the firm is also pursuing a policy of establishing offices in some of these countries with offices in Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana and Zimbabwe already well established with a combined staff complement of more than 80. The establishment of more external offices is currently being planned.
Zambia: UWP Consulting (Zambia), originally established as Ng’andu UWP Consulting in 2003, has developed into one of the larger and more respected civil engineering consulting firms in the country with an enviable reputation for innovation and completing projects on time and within budget. The Country Manager is Eugene Haazele, a well experienced civil engineer and project manager.
In Tanzania UWP have created a new company with the shareholders consisting of six Tanzanian professionals, with a combined total shareholding of 51%, and UWP Holdings with the remaining shareholding of 49%. The Country Manager is Henry Catma who has established a growing and increasingly successful practice.
UWP Botswana represents a partnership between NMA Consulting (Pty) Ltd of Botswana and UWP Holdings. NMA have a 51% shareholding in the new company with the remaining 49% being held by UWP Holdings. NMA (Newton McDonald and Associates) are a wholly citizen owned firm of independent consulting engineers and were established in Botswana in 1978. They currently have a total staff complement exceeding 40.
In Zimbabwe UWP have purchased a 49% shareholding in the civil engineering consultancy practice formally known as Centro Project (Pty) Ltd. The name of the company has been changed to UWP Consulting (Zimbabwe) (Pvt) Ltd with Walter Nyandoro retaining the portfolio of Office Manager.
International Business Developer of the Year Award
In 2008 UWP was awarded the CESA (formerly SAACE) International Business Developer of the Year award. The prestigious award is in recognition of the work done by a South African consulting engineering firms in foreign countries and also serves to promote the quality and professionalism of local firms to international clients. South African consulting engineers are highly respected internationally for their innovative engineering solutions and strict work ethics and UWP is particularly proud and honoured to have been selected as the winner of this category.
